You have been a brunette your whole life, but you really want something different. You don’t want drastic, just different. Although everyone tells you how pretty your hair is you are looking for something a little more exciting. You really want to go from brown to red.
The most important thing you need to do before you, or anyone else dyes your hair, is see what kind of condition your hair is in. If your hair is dry and brittle, then coloring it will only damage it more. Ask your stylist if your hair is in good enough condition for a dying. If it isn’t, then start working on bringing the moisture back in and getting your hair healthy and strong enough to color.
Once your hair is ready to color, then you can choose to dye it yourself or let the salon do it. If you choose to do it yourself, then don’t pick an off brand that you have never heard of because it is a little cheaper. Get a well known brand that you know is reputable. Pick out a color that is going to bring out your skin tone and natural hair color. Red coloring seems to fade the fastest, so make sure that you get a color that is within one to two shades of your natural color. This way, when it starts fading, there will not be a dramatic difference.
The best colors for those that have olive skin tones are burgundy and dark auburn. Pick out a medium auburn or copper if you have a medium skin tone. You don’t want to look washed out when dying your hair. You want to accent your natural beauty. If you aren’t sure that dying is for you, then try to get the right color in a temporary washing kit. This will usually wash out in about a month. If you decide to go permanent, then after the temporary dye has all washed out, dye a section of your hair to make sure that the color is right for you. This way, you will know for sure whether or not you want to permanently dye your brown hair red.
